The Sacré Coeur Basilica in Montmartre
One of the priceless treasures of Paris is the Sacré Coeur Basilica in Montmartre: its view over the Montmartre hill embraces Parisian rooftops and its district is one of the most picturesque in the capital.
The soul of Paris
The Sacré Coeur Basilica overlooks Paris from the top of the famous Butte Montmartre. The Sacré Coeur is a monument of Parisian romance. Its Romano-Byzantine architectural style undoubtedly contrasts with the other large Parisian churches. Its originality and position make it the second most visited place in the capital, with 11.2 million visitors each year.
You can discover its secrets by following a guide booklet, or by an audio guide course available on smartphone.
The Basilica was built in the 19th century on stilts. The rock dug out of quarries did not form a sufficiently solid ground, it was necessary to build 83 pillars of 33 meters to support it. To enjoy an exceptional view, you will have to climb the 300 steps of the dome. From there, you will observe Saint-Michel slaying the dragon, or the famous Savoyard, sheltered by the campanile.
