19th century trains and trams

Just 30 kilometres to the north of Paris, a handful of volunteers have succeeded in giving a new life and destiny to old rail vehicles. In Butry-sur-Oise, just beside the Valmondois station, they created the French Steam Tram and Secondary Railway Museum.

The "MTVS" is open when the weather's nice, and lets visitors take a pleasant trip back in time. It presents a beautiful collection of rail vehicles from former local railways: steam locomotives, switchers, Autorail vehicles, tram cars, luggage vans, and more. They've all found a second life here, having been conserved and restored. It's even possible to set off on a journey aboard an authentic steam strain with its 19th-century cars, on the first and third Sunday of each month (departures at 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.). This elegant convoy also circulates during the Steam Festival, traditionally organised at the museum on the first weekend in October.
