Train Travel Access Regulations

Conditions of Use for Standard Tickets

For travel on trains within the Ile de France, you must hold a standard transport ticket, as follows.
- Single journey
- Validated at point of entry
- Covering the entire sector travelled, whether you use one or several modes of transport: train, RER, Underground.

All tickets are for use exclusively on the sector travelled and journeys cannot be broken unless where required for appropriate connections.
You may discontinue your journey on a given sector but no reimbursement applies for partial use of a ticket.
Use of 2 tickets in succession is not allowed.
Tickets may be used on any given day, for a single journey. Tickets are issued without any specified period for use.
Once a ticket has been validated, all travel must be carried out within two hours.

Validation

Automatic ticket checking equipment is installed at all the major train stations: at turnstiles and/or doors, travellers must firstly validate their magnetic strip tickets and Navigo cards before proceeding to trains.

Reminder : Only single magnetic strip tickets must be validated.

Complying with statutory requirements

You must ensure you retain your ticket or coupon and that it is in good condition until you have passed through the train station exit. Both within the train station premises and on all trains, SNCF personnel are authorised to check the validity of your ticket at any time.

If your ticket is checked, you must produce:
- Your validated transport ticket or full travel pass (for example: coupon and card or travel pass bearing the same number),
- Documentary proof of entitlement to reduction.

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in a fine in addition to mandatory legal costs..

Statutory Travel Code of Good Conduct

How to enjoy optimum travel standards on the Transilien network

For your safety at train stations and on the platform

- Always use the bridges and underground passages : it is strictly forbidden to cross railway tracks,
- Do not run, make every effort to arrive slightly ahead of schedule : you can fall unexpectedly,
- Respect the law and show consideration for others by refraining from smoking on platforms and at train stations.

Reminder: Platforms are designed for pedestrians. If you ride a bike or use roller skates..., you place yourself and other travellers at risk.

Please be courteous to others when travelling by train

- Before you board a train, allow passengers to alight first,
- Remember to give up your seat to elderly persons, expectant mothers, the disabled?one day you could well find yourself in a similar situation,
- Do not obstruct the doors when closing; you will only cause delays to your train and those following.

By respecting this code of conduct, your own safety and that of other travellers is not placed at risk.

Using the alarm signal sensibly:
The alarm is used to warn the driver about any incident (ill traveller?) that could make an unforeseeable stop necessary. Improper use of the alarm is detrimental to the interests of all travellers on the train and those following. You also run the risk of incurring a fine of 131 euros.

Be actively aware of your safety

- Do not tempt pickpockets: take good care of any your personal items you are carrying (telephones, MP3 players?),
- Notify SNCF staff of any items or luggage that appear to have been abandoned,
- Keep your luggage with you at all times. Failure to do so may render you liable if police action is required within the framework of provisions of the VIGIPIRATE security plan.

EMERGENCY CALL TERMINALS
The SNCF has installed emergency call terminals at all Ile de France train stations, thus enabling you to make contact with emergency personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in order that personnel may make arrangements to ensure your safety and take decisions for appropriate action.

VIDEO-SURVEILLANCE
Video-surveillance systems are gradually being installed at all Ile de France train stations, and at the end of 2006 such monitoring will be put into operation in145 train stations.

What to do if...?

You have lost or found an item on a train or at a train station, you are travelling with a bike or you wish to take your pet along with you.

Lost Property Office

You have lost an item whilst on a train or at the train station:
You can go to the Lost Property Office of the particular main line train station in Paris connected with your journey (Paris Austerlitz, Paris Lyon, Paris Est, Paris Nord, Paris Saint-Lazare, Paris Montparnasse)

You have found an item

If you find an item at a train station or whilst travelling on a train, make sure you hand it over to an SNCF officer.
A receipt will be issued upon request.

Custody of Lost Property Items

Items considered to be valueless or of little value will be destroyed (used clothes, old umbrellas, etc.).
All other items will be kept for 30 days.
During this period, they may be returned to the rightful owner subject to payment of a fee of 9 Euro.
Once this time limit has expired, they will be transferred to state property department authorities.

Small pets must be placed in a container not exceeding 45 cm.
